What's in a name?

One of the things people are intrigued about is, 'Where did the name originate from?" They have lots of ideas but are often surprised to know it is simply the area in which I live. The Pendicles of Collymoon, and when I was starting down the road of creating my business and brand, I wanted the name to reflect where I and the products are from.

In the same way the logo for my gin brand reflects the place where it is created. The moon for obvious reasons, the mountains are visible from my home, the River Forth flows at the bottom of my garden and the tree is 'Big Doug' and he stands proudly in my garden.

Next people are always curious about the names of my gins. Again I wanted them to reflect their Scottish roots and so I have chosen to use Gaelic names for my gins;

Gealach Ur - New Moon - my inaugural gin, so it seemed fitting.

Solas An Earraich - Spring Moon/ Sunbeam - I finally perfected (in my eyes) the recipe for this gin in the spring, so I wanted the name to link to my lunar theme.

Gealch Cofaidh - Coffee Moon - one of the botanicals I used in this recipe were actual coffee beans so the link was made.

Dubhradh Na Gealaich - Lunar Eclipse - due to the dark nature of the spirit because I had infused the Gealach Cofaidh with a cold brew coffee.

Preas-Groiseid - Gooseberry Bush Gin - This gin started with a conversation with my local farm cooperative and wanting to create a gin inspired by my grandmothers gooseberry crumble. The farm cooperative very kindly donated a harvest of gooseberries to get me started.

As I continue to develop other gins, I am confident they will probably name themselves based on the flavours or the time of the year they were created.
